Take Your Space Further with a Chandelier

Atlantis Chandelier by Hudson Furniture

Chandeliers are a great way to add value to a space. They come in endless styles, shapes, and sizes. So, finding the right chandelier for your space can be draining. You have to consider the room's size and ceiling heights, as well as the type of furniture you have in the room. Here are some designer secrets on how to select the right chandelier for your space, but if you tell anybody I'll kill ya!
A chandelier that is too big for a room can overpower your space and make it look smaller and cramped. On the other hand, a chandelier that is too small for a room will look awkward and out of place. You want your chandelier to complement your room and push it further. You want it to look well thought out and feel like it belongs there, like it was made for you.
In a room that's, let's say 10' x 15', add the 10 and 15 together (25) and that would be the approximate size in inches of the chandelier's diameter (25").

If the chandelier you are using is not hung over a surface such as dining table or kitchen island, then you should be careful that there is at least 7' between the floor and the end tip of the chandelier.
If the chandeliers is hung above the surface of the dining room table for example, then be sure to leave 30"-32" of space between them.
Another technique for the dining room is to select a chandelier that is about 75% of the width of the table.  This, like the other techniques, depends on the style, configuration, and number of lights on the chandelier.  Some designers suggest that the chandelier be about 12″ narrower than the total width of the table.
When looking for a chandelier, I advise that you familiarize yourself with what's out there. Don't just go to you local department store and settle for the limited selection that they have. Look online, do the research, and if you don't really have the time to do so, then that's why you have people like me! Call an interior designer :)
